July 18, 2006 Announcement:

The committee headed by Mrs. Vera Prestridge of Liberty is in hopes of having the Little Red Schoolhouse, 1853, music room of the Liberty Female Academy open for tours approximately the second week of August of 2006. I have worked with Mrs. Vera closely in preparation for this opening. THIS WILL BE A FIRST for the Amite County Historical and Genealogical Society.

The Amite County Historical and Genealogical Society has long sought to open this building for tours. Brochures are in the works and will be placed at the Welcome Center on I-55 at Osyka, the libraries of Pike and Amite Counties, various banks and business establishments, and also in the Amite County Courthouse.

The brochure will show a photograph on the front, of the Little Red Schoolhouse, a brief history will be given, on the reverse will be the logo of the Amite County Historical and Genealogical Society and a list of names and phone numbers for contact in opening the building for a tour. At the bottom will be a map showing the location of the
Little Red Schoolhouse in Liberty.

In addition this same committee will be working with a local printing company for the preparation of postal cards showing some of the "OLD ANTEBELLUM HOMES" of Amite County, the pictures we have are wonderful, we are starting with 5, each will be numbered as in a set, they will be much like a collectible item and can also be used as
real postal cards. We may produce the regular size and the larger size if all goes well. Also in this series, we are intending on producing, contemporary postal cards of the Little Red Schoolhouse, Courthouse, Presbyterian Church, and the Confederate Monument in Liberty. Later we will be branching out into the county. Let me add
that the postal cards will not be limited to buildings, other picturesque views may be added, as well as unique personal photos that may hold interest.

We are open to ideas.

May God Bless Everyone,

William G. Barron
