The Amite County Historical and Genealogical Society will host an Amite County-style “Antiques Roadshow” following the society business meeting on June 14, 2008. Local and regional antique dealers will be present to offer evaluations on items that owners feel may be antiques and, in some cases, may be willing to appraise the value of items for insurance purposes.
The event will be held in the conference room of the Library in Liberty, MS, and will begin around 11:00 am and continue until 2:00 pm or so, depending on the number of persons bringing artifacts and items. Society members will be allowed to visit with the evaluators first and non-member guests will be admitted afterward. Each person bringing items is responsible for both transport and security of their items. Large items of furniture that are difficult to move should not be brought unless the owner provides all the help needed to move the object.
The society will also have the Little Red Schoolhouse museum and records respository open for visiting during at least a portion of the antiques evaluation depending on visitor demand. The Little Red Schoolhouse is directly across the street (Clinic Drive) from the library.
